Seeking Help is Better

We have heard it from time immemorial that no marriage is perfect yet countless numbers will not stop entering into marriage on any days of their choice.

If it’s the truth, why are millions all over the world getting married when they know that fights, abuse, separation and sometimes divorce is imminent? We can’t deny the fact that the intending couples had been given all kind of ‘helpful’ and ‘unhelpful’ advice on how no marriage is perfect and how one must be patient and all but do you know that no one was ever told that he/she can loose her mental health in marriage?

Let’s not pretend like we don’t know people who have lost it in marriage, people who are suffering silently and will most possibly die in it without seeking help.

Marriage is forever and it’s one institution you never graduate from (as we have been taught/told) but a lot of women/men are shadows of themselves though they don’t fail to wear makeup/mask that cannot cover their pain.
Nagging, criticism or feeling let down by your spouse are just some of the triggers for dissatisfaction in marriage.

I believe that betrayal of trust and dashed expectations can be some of the cause of depression in marriage in addition to some other unresolved issues and even petty things that are not considered relevant by the other spouse.

The question now is, is any man or woman worth losing your mental health for?

Though the solution to all marriage conflicts is not separation or divorce but what do you do when your mental health is not even in a healthy state? We live in a society of endurance and long suffering but do you know it is your fundamental human right to seek help when you know that you need it?
We find it very easy to eat when we are hungry, change our wardrobes when our clothes are worn out, attend social gathering to fulfill our social need, go the hospital when we feel sick in our bodies but we don’t pay the least attention to when we need to speak with a trusted person or seek professional help when the bottle is full and screaming to break, forgetting that it is only a whole person that can attend to the other issues of life.

The man/woman you want to die by suicide over will not pay you a ‘tithe’ of the years you spent with him/her before moving on so why not seek help from the right place when your mind is overwhelmed and the situation is still more demanding?
